Do not forget to keep an eye on Jackie’s blog. I see she has added items on school holiday events, pod casting workshops, boot camps and more.

Social Networking

I am noticing lots of sites are being blocked in schools because they are social networking sites. This site which I got to through TKI ( the link is at the bottom of this post) has some good information on what social networks are and how to keep kids safe on them.

Some questions I would like to put out there when considering what to block and what not to block are;

Do you know what kids of today are into?

Do we want to stop kids using these sites or do we want to show them how to be safe when using them?

Do you understand what they sites are about?

Have you had a good look at the sites yourself?

If this site is not one you want to use then have you looked for an alternative site that you do feel is okay for them to use?

Also on the site link I have given you is information on blogs, another highly used resource by students today. When I recommend blogging to my teachers I suggest a blog site I know can be as secure as they want it to be, it is an educators site and every posting or comment goes to the teacher for approval before going live.

It may take a bit more time, but please consider these questions before you say NO THEY are NOT going there.

Living Heritage

I was reading the information on The Newland Volunteer Fire Service on the Living Heritage site by Bellevue School students.

If you are looking at this topic their information is very detailed and would give your students lots of information.

I did not know a Fire Engine is actually called a Fire Appliance. See what new information you can find out about our great volunteers throughout NZ.

Well done Bellevue, you chose a great subject to share.

Take a Look for yourself.
