Fantatsic Contraption

In the fun Flash game Fantastic Contraption, you solve levels by building clever machines using rotating wheels and rods.

The object in all levels is to make all red objects overrcome a number of obstacles and move into a goal area. In order do do this, you need to connect the objects with rotating wheels and rods to create amazing contraptions that roll around the screen. A fun and mindbending game!

Interactive Drawing for 4-10yrs

Shidonni.com is an incredible interactive website for kids aged 4-10 that lets your child create animals, animate them, and so much more! Shidonni.com offers a great free service for children that allows them to express their creativity and imagination both at home and in the classroom.

This website could be used for digital storytelling, a story starter for a writing assignment, or just for fun! You don’t have to register in order try the service, but remember; only registered users can save their creations.

Interactive Games

On the free site funforthebrain.com, kids get to solve math problems (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). If they get the answers right, they will earn rewards.

Rewards are a great way to keep kids motivated, so this site is worth a look!

Games include Pizza Piazzaz, Math Models, Math Monsters, Snowball Fight, Patty’s Paints, Color Creations and more.

The website also hosts games for learning English grammars and reading, parts of speach, suffixes or science.

Literactive - Learning to Read Activities

Literactive.com is a wonderful literacy resource for children and teachers. The site contains a multitude of interactive story books and materials that can be used at home or in the classroom.

This site is geared toward pre-school through Kindergarten but would be helpful to beginning readers of any age.

The Kindergarten Guided Reading section contains leveled readers, nursery rhymes, and poetry books. Worksheets for learning ABCs and pre-writing are available for download in PDF format, and the Activities section includes numerous interactive games including memory and sequence games.

If you’d rather your child or student complete activities in a sequence, check out Literactive’s Road to Reading online phonics reading program. The Road to Reading contains even more literacy activities and would be perfect for a computer center.

Learning Music

On the free website sfskids.org, kids can learn about musical notation, tempo, rythm and much more. The can also find out more about instruments of the orchestra: string, woodwinds, brass and percussion.

The music lab lets children experiment with music. For example, in the Harmony Viewer, you can try out the same piece of music with different harmonies, and hear the difference. In the Instrumentation activity, you can try out how the music sounds if you change what instrument plays what part.

This is a great set of free musical lessons for children! The site was created by the San Francisco Symphony.

My Storymaker

My Story Maker is a tool that helps kids write their own stories. Add characters and objects to the storyboard, and click them to add actions. A basic story will be automatically written, and the students can then change the text with adjectives and other descriptive words.

When the story is finished, you can print it or link to a PDF version of the book.

You will find a variety of characters to add to your story, including a scientist, a mermaid, a ghost, a dragon, a dinosaur, a robot and many, many more. Settings include a desert, a sea, the moon, a forest, a room and more.

My Story Maker was created by Carnegie Library. No registration or download is required  - just click and start writing your story straight away! A fun and interactive way to improve children’s writing skills!

Learning to Read

Starfall is a fun site for kids learning to read. It has interactive games starting from learning the alphabet, learning words, to how to read. Most games have an audio track, sothe kids can listen to the word, and repeat back.
