I wanted to put up this post about the Kids Congress, which was held in Christchurch at Science Alive on the 22-23 May this year. The school which I know attended this year are Awahono, Paparoa Range, Lake Brunner and Franz Joesp. If any other schools went let me know.
Lake Brunner students wrote a small report for me to add here for you to read and supplied some photos. If you also went to the congress and wanted to add something to this entry, then email it through to me.
The congress weblink is http://www.kidscongress.org.nz/christchurch/ if you would like to have a look.
Kids Congress reports:
Background:
We had four places available for Kids Congress in Christchurch and students had to write why they should be selected for this wonderful opportunity. They also needed to have demonstrated a consistent ‘give it a go’ attitude to learning and leadership qualities. The four students that went from Lake Brunner School certainly gave everything a go! The workshops were highly organised and professionally run and it was awesome how students had something they could take home with them at the end. Our students also enjoyed interacting with lots of students from schools all over the South Island and enjoyed the fact that we teamed up with Awahono and Paparoa range schools for the three day trip.

Recently I was at Kids Congress, which was held at Science Alive in Christchurch. The workshop I was involved in was Lights, Camera, Imagination, Action! One skill I learnt from my workshop was how to use a digital camera. I worked with students from schools all over the South Island. A highlight for me was working with people I didn’t know before Kids Congress. I hope to teach students at Lake Brunner School some of the great skills I learnt.
By Amy Larkin:
At Kids Congress in Christchurch I did the Lego Product Design workshop. We had to design a lego product and actually make the box for it. We also had to write the instructions for the lego creation. I now know how to use i-photo on an apple computer and I liked making the box and instructions using the computer. I will bring the skills I learnt back to Lake Brunner School and show other students what I made while I was at Kids Congress 2008.

Thanks for sharing this with us all, it looks like you had a lot of fun and learnt new things.
