Wanting to find out the meaning of a common sayings or idioms? … have a look at these two websites.

Phrases.net is an online place to look-up unknown idiom phrases. It is a user contributed resource where you can search for almost any idiom and get its meanings. You can also browse the website alphabetically, learn how idioms should be pronounced and easily translate them into 20 different languages. So next time you hear from someone an unfamiliar idiom look it up on Phrases.net.

Wordnik is a comprehensive word search tool similar to a dictionary but provides a lot more than what a dictionary does. Factbook – Quick Info on Countries

FactBook is website which provides you with a unique way to retrieve facts about countries of the world. Unlike any other website it does not give you list of results or pages full of text, instead it provides you with a set of filters which you can easily find what you need.

For example, let’s say you want to find out in which African countries people mainly speak in English? All you have to do is first choose the Africa and then click on the English language. The results will b showing all English speaking countries in Africa. You may then filter/sort results even further using other filters like population, religion, GDP, government type, natural resources, continent, neighbors… etc.

Rhyming Dictionary

RhymeZone is an easy-to-use rhyming dictionary. It lets you find rhyming words and phrases to use in poems, riddles, rap songs etc. Just type in a word and click on the “Go get it!” button to get a list of rhymes. The results can be sorted by a number of word syllables and letters.

Apart from rhymes, you can use the site to look up synonyms, antonyms, definitions, words with similar sounds, search the works of Shakespeare and more.

Graphical Dictionary


Visuwords is an online dictionary that displays search results in a graphical  “neural net” like fashion.

Search results show word definitions, associations with other words and concepts. Nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs are colour coded for easy identification.
