Maths Manipulatives

This website has some really good interactive activities for teaching math up to year 8. It’s an online resource so is accessible to any computer, and can be used on any IWB.

It also has a number of tools to allow you to add text or freehand draw over the activities, as well as the option to print the screen your working on.

Photography Tips

BBC Wildlife Magazine has a number of downloadable PDF’s on Masterclass tips on shooting wildlife and scenery. These PDF’s are short but concise and are a great resource for teachers and students particularly if entering in photo competitions.

Booktalks

BookTalks is an alternative method of connecting schools, education centres, and other organisitions with New Zealand authors and illustrators using internet technology. It is the initiative is run by  CORE Education.

The BookTalks system enables pupils, classrooms, whole schools, clubs and organistions to meet authors and illustrators “in person” using video conferencing software called Skype. It reduces costs, as no travel expenses, accommodation, etc is involved.

De-Clutter That Webpage

Readability is a simple tool that makes reading on the Web more enjoyable by removing the clutter around what you’re reading. Readability allows you to add a button to your web browser which you can activate on any website. Simply configure Readability to suit your needs. eg font size, style etc, then simply drag the button to your browser.

Whenever you view a website that’s rather cluttered by ads and images, simply click on the Readability button in your web browser and the page will be de-cluttered.

Using multiple mice as a “Clicker” polling device

Microsoft have released “Mouse Mischief” which allows 20-25 mice to be used as a “clicker” device.

Students can actively participate in these lessons by using their own mice to click, circle, cross out, or draw answers on the screen

Mouse Mischief is an addon for Powerpoint 2007 & 2010 versions for windows system only.
