Newspaper Map – translate newspapers across the world

Newspaper Map allows you to search for newspapers around the world and view their websites. You can click on the map or enter a city or country to see the selection of newspapers available.

For foreign language newspapers – you can choose to translate the news website, via google tranlate.

If you’re studying other countries, this would be a great site to find out what’s making news in their part of the world

SitePouch – Share Multiple Websites

SitePouch is a free to use website that lets you view multiple websites together. This is a useful tool if you want to limit your students to research only selected websites. Instead of having students typing in the URL for each website, SitePouch can create one link for all the websites.

Enter the web address for each of the websites on the SitePouch webpage – SitePouch will then generate a unique URL that you can share with students, that contains the websites that you have chosen in a stack. Clicking on one of the listed website URL opens it up while the other sites remain on the stack. Clicking on a new site in the list opens it up and hides the previous site.

Super Teacher Tools

Super Teacher Tools is a great site with lots of really fun and useful tools for the classroom. Most of the activities are made in Flash and can be downloaded or played online. The great thing is you can customize each activity to your own learning objectives by adding your own questions and answers. Have teams of students play “Jeopardy” or “Who wants to be a Millionaire” using your own subject questions and points.

New Google Search Features

Google has recently released some new search tools – “Voice Search” (for Chrome) and “Search by Image”

Voice Search for Chrome

Voice Search allows you to simply search Google by speaking the search words into your microphone, instead of typing the words. This would be useful for students who find spelling difficult or have trouble using the keyboard.

View the demo video at the link below.

Search by Image

Search by Image allows you to search Google by using images instead of words. You can upload images or use images already on the web, simply by dragging the image into the search field.  Google uses computer vision techniques to match your image to other images in the Google Images index and additional image collections. From those matches, Google will try to generate an accurate “best guess” text description of your image, as well as find other images that have the same content as your search image

A useful tool to look for similar images or try to identify where the image was taken or related content.

Technology Integration Matrix

“The Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) illustrates how teachers can use technology to enhance learning for K-12 students. The TIM incorporates five interdependent characteristics of meaningful learning environments: active, constructive, goal directed (i.e., reflective), authentic, and collaborative. The TIM associates five levels of technology integration (i.e., entry, adoption, adaptation, infusion, and transformation) with each of the five characteristics of meaningful learning environments. Together, the five levels of technology integration and the five characteristics of meaningful learning environments create a matrix of 25 cells as illustrated below.”

Each cell has a short video clip where the teacher explains the activity and how it was used in class with students.
