BookTalks is an alternative method of connecting schools, education centres, and other organisitions with New Zealand authors and illustrators using internet technology. It is the initiative is run by CORE Education.
The BookTalks system enables pupils, classrooms, whole schools, clubs and organistions to meet authors and illustrators “in person” using video conferencing software called Skype. It reduces costs, as no travel expenses, accommodation, etc is involved.

The topic is the Olympics.
If you are interested please send the names, which school you are form and which West Net School you will go to for the session, so these can be organised.
The last one was worth while, so if you can get at least one person along to this one.

I thought I would put up a quick link Warren provided for us.
I am going to put the full notes from the session and I have all the resources he gave the schools for you to download, soon. Hopefully later today.
This site is where you can get postcards that link picture books and science together, we looked at one during the session. We all thought they were great so go and have a look and see what you think for your school/class. This site is being added to so book mark it for future reference.

The next Science VC session is 15 May and the teachers have asked for a focus on the Olympics, which Warren has said he will do, this will be around the sports and the clothing, so get your names into me to book your places.

As you will know from my email that I am trying to get an indication of how many provisionally registered teachers there are in the Primary Sector on the West Coast.
Vicki has organised for the adviser to hold VC sessions in the WestNet schools for secondary provisionally registered teachers and Steve is keen to see if it could work for Primary here on the Coast.
So once again it is up to you guys to support this if you want it to happen, so please email me with the names of your new teachers and I will pass the information on.
